Pulmonary EmbolectomyRetrograde Approach Without Use of a Heart-Lung Bypass
Walter H. Janke, MD
JAMA. 1968;206(1):127-128.
Abstract
Pulmonary angiograms of patients with massive pulmonary embolism will often demonstrate complete occlusion of one pulmonary artery with little involvement of the other lung. In this group of patients, a unilateral pulmonary embolectomy through a posterolateral approach will afford a simple way of performing a meticulous cleaning of the affected pulmonary artery and all its branches. This method was used successfully in a 64-year-old woman.
