Abstract
We advocate the use of ipodate (Oragrafin) calcium in routine oral cholecystography. If the gallbladder fails to be visualized adequately following administration of 3 gm of iopanoic acid (Telepaque), ipodate should be administered without delay and the study repeated in five hours. This method of supplemental ipodate resulted in same-day diagnostic concentration of contrast material in 30 (41%) patients. Persistent nonvisualization following ipodate supplementation is probably equivalent to non-visualization after a two-day iopanoic acid study.
