Abstract
The Yale Affiliated Gastroenterology Program has established clinical traineeships in gastroenterology in six Connecticut community hospitals. Utilizing existing health resources and personnel, the program has increased the output of gastroenterologists in Connecticut threefold from 4 to 12 per year. The gastroenterological trainees at the community hospitals provide mutually advantageous communications between the university medical center and the community hospital health personnel. Resultant improvement in patient care is suggested by increased utilization of gastroenterological consultations and diagnostic procedures in the participating hospitals.
