Subdural Hematoma Associated With Long-Term Hemodialysis For Chronic Renal Disease

Andrew Talalla, MD, FRCS; Harold Halbrook, MD; Benjamin H. Barbour, MD; Theodore Kurze, MD

JAMA. 1970;212(11):1847-1849.

Abstract

Three patients undergoing long-term hemodialysis developed subdural blood clots. The clinical manifestations of these hematomas were, in some cases, not unlike other neurological states seen in patients undergoing hemodialysis. Several factors predisposed to the formation of hematomas are present in such patients so that only an awareness of the possibility of a coexisting subdural hematoma can lead to their early detection and treatment.
