Abstract
Initial coagulation studies performed on a patient with an apparently spontaneous hemorrhagic diathesis revealed only mild abnormalities, which rapidly cleared without therapy. When bleeding recurred, a second series of coagulation studies revealed a circulating anticoagulant which was neutralized by protamine sulfate. Subsequently the patient admitted to surreptitious selfadministration of large doses of heparin sodium.
