Abstract
To our knowledge, there are nine known cases in which vaccinia necrosum has followed smallpox vaccination for chronic herpetic ulcers. In five cases the patients died. One patient who died and one who recovered are reported here. Vaccination has never been shown to be an effective treatment for chronic herpes infection. We believe it should be considered a potentially dangerous practice, and that this form of supposed therapy be discontinued.
