Primary Ovarian Pregnancy
James A. Zimble, MD
JAMA. 1970;213(8):1337-1339.
Abstract
Primary ovarian pregnancy is an extremely unusual form of ectopic gestation, occurring in 1:25,000 to 1:40,000 pregnancies. Most cases are diagnosed and treated in the first trimester, and have a history and findings similar to those of tubal ectopic pregnancies or ruptured corpus luteum cysts. Although preexisting infection and pelvic endometriosis have been cited as possible predisposing factors, the etiology remains obscure. Excision of the affected ovary and tube is the present accepted therapy.
