Articular and Cutaneous Sporotrichosis

James W. Manhart, MD; Janet A. Wilson, MD; Bernard C. Korbitz, MD

JAMA. 1970;214(2):365-367.

Abstract

A patient with chronic granulocytopenia and marrow hypoplasia of unknown etiology developed articular and cutaneous sporotrichosis while receiving corticosteroid therapy. The patient's active participation in gardening is presumably the major factor in the development of this mycotic infection. We postulate that the chronic granulocytopenia and corticosteroid administration contributed to the dissemination of the disease and the resulting articular involvement.
