Splenic Arteriovenous Fistula With Bacterial Endarteritis and Endocarditis

Abstract
The combination of arteriovenous fistula, endocarditis, and endarteritis is rare. This communication adds another case of this association with the fistula and the endarteritis involving the splenic artery and vein, a previously unreported cause for a splenic arteriovenous fistula. Listening for a characteristic bruit provided much localizing information while arteriography established the exact area of the fistula. The causative organism was a coagulase-negative staphylococcus which produced large vegetations on the aortic valve.
