Renal Ischemia and Hypertension From a Constrictive Perirenal Hematoma

Abstract
A unilateral perirenal subfascial hematoma caused cessation of renal function and development of arterial hypertension. The ischemic functional pattern occurred during the phase of nonfunction; following surgical removal of the constricting hematoma, function returned towards normal, and the hypertension subsided. This would seem to support the validity of Page's original concept, that hemodynamic change within the kidney is the basic mechanism of hypertension and nonfunction, in cases of extrinsic compression of one kidney.
