Abstract
Treating adolescent heroin addicts is a formidable task. The available evidence strongly suggests that the great majority do not achieve abstinence, but become even more heavily involved with drugs and crime. The present study suggests that treating these young addicts with methadone maintenance frequently stops or even reverses the socioeconomic decay associated with long-term heroin use.
