Herbicola lathyri Septicemia, Myoglobinuria, and Acute Renal Failure

Thomas I. Soule, MD; Glenn R. Cunningham, MD

JAMA. 1973;223(11):1265-1266.

Abstract

A man with coronary artery disease developed septicemia due to Herbicola lathyri while receiving commercially prepared intravenous fluids. The unusual complications of severe myalgias, extraordinarily high creatine phosphokinase levels in the blood, transient hypotension, myoglobinuria, and acute renal failure were temporally associated with the septicemia.
