Abstract
Of 228 patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) admitted to our inpatient service during a 6.5-year period, 18 (8%) had prominent muscle disease. In the majority of these patients, myositis occurred at the time of diagnosis of SLE. The creatine phosphokinase level was normal in all but one of these patients; however, the serum aldolase level was frequently elevated. All patients responded promptly to corticosteroid treatment.
