Abstract
The rates of detection of virus infections among all patients studied by a clinical virology laboratory during a 3 1/2-year period were analyzed to determine whether delays in specimen transport time of up to 24 hours influenced yields. No significant effects were found. The data suggest that regionalization of clinical virology services can be done without adversely affecting diagnostic sensitivity.
