Landmark article Oct 28, 1933. Successful removal of an entire lung for carcinoma of the bronchus. By Evarts A. Graham and J. J. Singer

The left lung and many of the tracheobronchial mediastinal glands were
removed in a one stage operation because of a carcinoma that originated in
the bronchus of the upper lobe but which was so close to the bronchus of
the lower lobe that, in order to remove it completely, it was necessary to
remove the entire lung. This is apparently the first case in which an
entire lung has been removed successfully at one stage. 600 South
