Leadership Opportunities for Residents and Fellows

The American Medical Association-Resident Physicians Section (AMA-RPS) Governing Council is currently recruiting resident and fellow physicians to fill several leadership positions. The resident representatives report back to the AMA-RPS Governing Council on items of interest to resident physicians and fellows. The following is a summary of the organizations with upcoming vacancies for residents.

The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) is the nationally recognized accrediting agency for more than 7000 residency training programs in the United States. It meets 3 times yearly to establish general performance parameters for residency programs and to approve specific academic recommendations made by its Residency Review Committees. The AMA-RPS Governing Council appoints the resident representative to the ACGME for a 2-year term.

The Graduate Medical Education Advisory Committee, a subcommittee of the AMA Council on Medical Education, reviews special requirements developed by the ACGME's Residency Review Committees and advises the Council on Medical Education . . . [Full Text of this Article]
