- Faina Shtern, MD, of the US Department of Health and Human Services Office on Women's Health, has received the 1999 Satava Award for her leadership role in the advancement of the early detection and treatment of breast cancer.
- Richard K. Scher, MD, Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons, New York City, becomes president-elect of the American Academy of Dermatology this month.
- Three researchers received Kappa Delta Awards at the meeting of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. They are Thomas A. Einhorn, MD, Boston University School of Medicine, Boston, Mass; Scott D. Boden, MD, Emory University School of Medicine, Atlanta, Ga; and Julia A. Briege, MD, University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha.L. Andrew Koman, MD, received the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation Clinical Research Award.
