One-Year Anniversary of the JAMA Patient Page

This issue marks the 1-year anniversary of the JAMA Patient Page. In April 1998, JAMA launched the Patient Page as a public service to provide physicians with a tool to assist them in effectively communicating medical information to their patients.1 The Patient Page always appears as the last editorial page in each issue, just inside the back cover, and the topic is linked to 1 or more articles in the issue.
During the past year, we have received a number of letters from physicians and other health care professionals in response to the Patient Page. We also solicited feedback from 4 focus groups conducted late last year (2 physician focus groups and 2 patient focus groups in Indianapolis, Ind, and Orlando, Fla).
