  • Carlo M. Croce, MD, director of the Kimmel Cancer Center of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, has received the American Association for Cancer Research–Pexcoller International Award for Cancer Research.
  • Isaiah J. Fidler, DVM, PhD, director of the Cancer Metastasis Research Center at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, has received the Bristol-Myers Squibb Award for Distinguished Achievement in Cancer Research.
  • William D. Strampel, DO, Falls Church, Va, a colonel who has been special assistant to the surgeon general, US Army, is retiring from the military to become senior associate dean at the College of Osteopathic Medicine, Michigan State University, East Lansing.
  • Alfred W. Gordon, PhD, will head the new Office of Special Programs in Neuroscience at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke. The office was created in an effort to further recruitment and training of minority neuroscience research professionals.
