Kernel Blitz, called the largest peacetime medical exercise in US Navy history, has come to a close in and around California. The seagoing phase involved a US Marine Corps landing at Camp Pendleton, with 618 simulated casualties treated on the hospital ship Mercy or other US Navy ships and in a field hospital ashore. Some 1470 medical personnel took part. In an earlier phase, US Navy medical teams supported marines undergoing urban warfare training in the Monterey, Calif, area.
