A new organization formed to strengthen the clinical research side of medicine by stimulating interest in patient-oriented research will soon hold its first meeting.
The Association for Patient-Oriented Research (APOR) came into being last spring when a group of physicians met to discuss the fate of the "disappearing" clinical investigator; it will meet in Atlantic City from April 30 to May 2.
According to President David Robertson, MD, who is professor of medicine, pharmacology, and neurology at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, the place and time were chosen to commemorate the annual "trisociety meetings," which for many years were held jointly by the Association of American Physicians, the American Society for Clinical Investigation, and the American Federation for Clinical Research.
