Abrams, MD, who is chair and principal investigator of the Community Consortium in San Francisco, assistant director for AIDS Programs at San Francisco General Hospital, and professor of clinical medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, has been elected president of the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association.
  • Günter Blobel, MD, PhD, who is the John D. Rockefeller, Jr, Professor in the Laboratory of Cell Biology at Rockefeller University, is the recipient of the 1999 Nobel Prize in physiology or medicine. In 1993, Blobel received the Albert Lasker Award for Basic Medical Research for "landmark discoveries concerning the processes by which intercellular proteins are targeted across cell membranes."
  • Wiley W. Souba, MD, formerly of Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, Mass, has been appointed chair of the Department of Surgery at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pa.
