Consortium Concurs on Care for Children With Asthma

Washington—Concerned that childhood asthma is often inadequately treated, a consortium of pediatricians, allergists, nurses, and child health groups has produced a practical, user-friendly guide to managing the disease for physicians and patients.

The guide is based on the 1997 recommendations by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute's (NHLBI) National Asthma Education and Prevention Program (JAMA.1997;278:11)—but unlike the original document, the new heavy-paper version, a 140-page publication tab-marked for ready reference, relates the message about managing childhood asthma with colorful art and easy-to-read discussion.

Pediatric Asthma: Promoting Best Practice Guide for Managing Asthma in Children is the first pediatric guide to be unanimously endorsed by the National Asthma Education and Prevention Program (NAEPP), the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), and the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (AAAAI).
