In connection with the recommendation on preventive health measures, US Air Force physicians have made major contributions to a new, uniform pocket–sized manual that all officers and enlisted persons are being urged to carry with them at all times. The manual focuses on preparing for, participating in, and dealing with many of the challenges (including combat) of deployment.

This manual's preventive medicine aspects include reminders to pack adequate supplies of any prescription medications or devices; tips on how to cope with heat, cold, disease vectors, and unsanitary conditions; ways to maintain personal cleanliness; emphasis on the need to be alert to unsafe or enemy-induced actions or conditions; steps for applying immediate life-saving measures for various injuries or illnesses in the field; and responses to nuclear, biological, or chemical warfare agents.

Each section includes review questions on the subject matter.
