JAMA Web Site Enters New Phase

Full-text access to the online version of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) and the American Medical Association (AMA) Archives journals will be available only to AMA members or paid subscribers beginning in June.

While full-text access has been freely available since September 30, 1999, the move to "put up walls" around certain sections of the Web site has always been part of the plan, said Robert L. Kennett, vice president, publishing.

"We designed our full-text service to be service designated exclusively for members of the AMA and paid subscribers to our journals," Kennett said. JAMA's Web site, like those of most of the major scientific publications, will offer free limited access.
