Baltimore—Concerned about what is described as a "growing trend of uncontrolled high blood pressure," a new group called the National Alliance to Reach Blood Pressure Goals is going to try to reverse it. The alliance is a consortium of approximately 20 government, medical, and patient organizations formed to bring national attention to the need to expand the control of hypertension.

The group is mounting a series of national intervention programs it calls "From Awareness to Action." The objective is to improve the rates of blood pressure control, said Martha Hill, PhD, who chairs the alliance's advisory council. Hill, who is director of the Center for Nursing Research at Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing, spoke during a telephone press conference announcing the effort, which is funded by Bristol-Myers Squibb Co, New York, NY.
