  • Jan L. Breslow, MD, head of the Laboratory of Biochemical Genetics and Metabolism at Rockefeller University, New York, NY, has received the 2000 Bristol-Myers Squibb Award for Distinguished Achievement in Cardiovascular Research. Ronald M. Evans, PhD, professor in the Gene Expression Laboratory and investigator, Howard Hughes Medical Institute, at the Salk Institute, LaJolla, Calif, has received the first Bristol-Myers Squibb Award for Distinguished Achievement in Metabolic Research.
  • Douglas E. Henley, MD, of Hope Mills, NC, is the new executive vice president of the American Academy of Family Physicians. He replaces Robert Graham, MD, who held the position for 15 years.
  • Tenley Albright, MD, of Boston, Mass, who won the Olympic figure skating Gold Medal in 1956, has been inducted into the International Scholar-Athlete Hall of Fame at the University of Rhode Island. Also inducted was Sir Roger Banister, MD, of Great Britain, who ran the first sub–4-minute mile in 1954.
