First Impaired Physicians Therapy Program Appears to Be Successful in Spain

Barcelona—The Official Medical College of Barcelona (COMB) has recently released a report about the work done within the first year after the launch of the Program for the Integral Care of the Ill Physician (PAIMM).

This program in Catalonia, Spain, is aimed at ensuring appropriate care for physicians suffering from psychiatric disorders and drug addiction so that they can be rehabilitated and return to work.

The initial idea emerged from the realization that if physicians with these problems are given no treatment, they may not only be medically negligent and put patients in jeopardy, but the consequences of their disorders negatively influence their relationships with colleagues at work and their families at home.
