AMA Adopts Policies Regarding Medical Education

At its Interim Meeting in December, the American Medical Association-House of Delegates (AMA-HOD) adopted several actions of interest to resident and fellow physicians, some of which were summarized in last week's Resident Physician Forum, others are summarized below. Signing Bonuses to Attract Graduates of US Medical Schools, a report prepared by the AMA Council on Ethical and Judicial Affairs, asks the AMA to adopt a policy stating that signing bonuses or compensation should not be offered or denied to a resident physician based on the country in which the resident attended medical school.

Opposition to Inclusion of Liability Payments Made on Behalf of Residents in the National Practitioner Data Bank asks the AMA (1) to support the policy that hospitals must promptly notify any residents who are named in a malpractice suit against . . . [Full Text of this Article]
