To the Editor: It is with sadness and disappointment that I read the Clinical Crossroads Update regarding the status of the 26-year-old woman seeking an abortion 1 year later.1
It is sad that this patient has such unhealthy behavior that she has already experienced 2 unwanted and unplanned pregnancies. It is sad that she has been in unhealthy sexual relationships, has had irregularity in medical care and inconsistency in taking oral contraceptives, and possibly has been exposed to sexually transmitted diseases.
What is most sad is the objective medical presentation of such a history and the medical recommendations that are so "clinically correct" that there is no obvious concern for her health from the emotional, physical, spiritual, and relationship perspectives. It is regrettable that there is little, if any, history of her emotional status, spiritual faith, or philosophy and no recommendations for follow-up in these areas.
