ABIM Foundation Launches Forum 2000

Mont Tremblant, QuebecThe American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Foundation launched its first major activity by convening a conference here this summer that assembled 100 invited participants representing a broad range of health care experts. The invitees included physicians, medical scientists, health care policy analysts, lawyers, economists, political scientists, representatives of federal health-related agencies, and leaders of consumer organizations.
From July 30 to August 2, the group explored a wide range of topics, including the impact of market forces on health care, the public perception of physicians, options to pair quality and health care, and how change occurs within the health care arena. Enriching these discussions were perspectives presented by physician leaders, consumer advocates, and medical organizations that champion better health care for everyone in the United States.
