  • Donald I. Abrams, MD, president of the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association, based in San Francisco, Calif, has received the Award of Courage from the American Foundation for AIDS Research for his work as chair of San Francisco General Hospital's Community Consortium. Abrams was also chosen by the International Association of Physicians in AIDS Care as one of 40 "pioneers" in HIV/AIDS care to receive the association's Heroes in Medicine Award.
  • Thomas E. Kowalski, MD, has been named medical director of gastrointestinal endoscopy in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Department of Medicine, at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pa. He is also associate professor of medicine at Jefferson Medical College.
