  • Ronald Levy, MD, of Stanford University School of Medicine, Stanford, Calif, has received the Medal of Honor in clinical research from the American Cancer Society. The medal in basic research was presented to Elizabeth H. Blackburn, PhD, of San Francisco, Calif, associate editor of the journal Molecular Biology of the Cell, and the medal for contributions to cancer control was presented to Harold P. Freeman, MD, of New York City, who is president and CEO, and director of surgery, at North General Hospital in Harlem.
  • Dennis L. Fowler, MD, who is Leon C. Hirsch Professor of Clinical Surgery at Weill Medical College of Cornell University and the US Surgical Professor of Clinical Surgery at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, New York City, has been appointed director of minimal access surgery at New York–Presbyterian Hospital.
