Travelers' Aids

The American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH) has issued two publications to assist travelers who run into medical problems while pursuing exotic fun in the sun.

The Clinical Consultants Directory contains a worldwide list of physicians offering clinical consultative service in tropical medicine, medical parasitology, and travelers' health. The directory is published as a resource for travelers seeking referral to a specialist in tropical medicine and/or travelers' health, for pretravel counseling and immunization as well as for posttravel evaluation, consultation, and treatment.

The directory can be obtained through the Internet at http://www.astmh.org.

Also newly released is the 12th edition of Health Hints for the Tropics. This 50-page booklet offers information including preparation for travel, immunizations, malaria prevention, travelers' diarrhea, special health problems, advice for en route and after returning, and references and resources.
