To the Editor: Dr Buchbinder and colleagues1 found that ESWT for plantar fasciitis may not be as beneficial as previously thought. The treatment protocol, however, differed from prior trials in terms of number of treatment sessions, energy dose delivered at each session, and use of anesthesia. The authors do not provide the number of patients who did not require additional treatment following ESWT and the dosage that they were able to tolerate.
I can attest that many patients who have unsuccessfully attempted many other treatments have benefited greatly from this noninvasive technique using previously published protocols and have recommended it to others.
