Evidence-Based Medicine on Trial

Since this article does not have an abstract, we have provided the first 83 words of the full text and any section headings.

To the Editor: Most often, emotional havoc overshadows financial considerations for physician defendants in medical liability litigation, as so vividly described by Dr Merenstein.1 Such experiences will drive physicians away from practice and dissuade the young and the brightest from studying medicine. While EBM may predict outcomes, delayed diagnosis of cancer remains a most common cause for medical liability action.

Biology is not always predictable. I encourage Merenstein to continue practice, as the emotional satisfaction far outweighs the displeasure of today's litigious climate.
