The Public's Enthusiasm for Cancer Screening

Since this article does not have an abstract, we have provided the first 114 words of the full text and any section headings.

To the Editor: Dr Schwartz and colleagues1 found that 73% of respondents would prefer to receive a total-body CT scan to $1000 in cash. While these results may be accurate for this particular sample, I doubt that 3 of 4 people would choose a total-body CT scan over $1000 if they had first been involved in a discussion of cancer screening. Such a high rate of choosing the CT scan over the cash is more likely the effect of the survey on the participants than a native preference.

Unfortunately, if the population is in fact becoming more amenable to cancer screening and consumer-directed marketing of screening procedures, this will only expand the population's interest.
