In Reply: Dr Case argues that we were too conservative in interpreting our findings from our study of the effects of an income supplement on children's psychiatric symptoms. However, given a mean difference of 0.4 symptoms in total emotional symptom scores among ex-poor children, we were not comfortable in claiming a clinically significant effect of the intervention in that area. As we collect more data over time, we expect to be able to further clarify these relationships in our sample.
