Effects of Estrogen-Only Treatment in Postmenopausal Women

Since this article does not have an abstract, we have provided the first 91 words of the full text and any section headings.

To the Editor: The WHI investigators1 restricted their data on osteoporotic events to hip fractures, perhaps because of the ease of extracting the data. Had they included fractures of the spine leading to compression and kyphotic deformities, their assertion that CEE contributes no overall benefit would be difficult to justify. Getting precise data on spinal fractures presents difficulties, but as long as these common and disabling events are excluded from the data, it is erroneous to state that the burden of disease events in the CEE and placebo groups are equivalent.
