To the Editor: Dr Hujoel and colleagues¹ did not control for the number of dental caries or other dental pathology. It is possible that women with more dental disease or dental disease of greater severity are more likely to have LBW infants than those with healthy teeth. Additionally, in their study radiation dose from dental radiographs was related to maternal smoking and late prenatal care. It is possible that this is a more important correlation than dental radiography and LBW.
