New Howard Hughes Investigators Named

At least one group of biomedical researchers neednt be glum about the minuscule 0.7% increase for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the Bush administrations 2006 budget request: 43 scientists who were recently named Howard Hughes Medical Institution (HHMI) investigators, an honor that confers full salary and benefits for 5 years and the opportunity to take research endeavors in any direction the recipients choose (http://www.hhmi.org/news/032105.html).
The selection of these latest investigators increases the total number of HHMI investigators by 15% and provides an additional $300 million to biomedical research.
