This third edition of Histology for Pathologists includes chapters from 96 expert contributors on both sides of the Atlantic. Despite the numerous contributors, the style of writing remains even and clear throughout the text, and the quality of both the gross and microscopic photographs ranges from good to excellent. One finds pertinent embryology and gross anatomy heading the chapters, and, for reasons of clarity, some material is presented in tabular form. The third edition presents some of the latest information concerning programmed cell death (apoptosis). New studies on immunohistochemical cell markers are mentioned, along with practical information directed to the surgical pathologist. Variations in skin histology attributed to age and location are discussed. There is information related to the change in breast histology during the normal menstrual cycle and to the possible relationship between breast microanatomy and carcinogenesis.
