A History of Plastic Surgery provides a fascinating journey through the evolution of the specialty that considers its domain the "skin and all of its contents." Santoni-Rugiu and Sykes are 2 well-known European plastic surgeons who wanted to provide a detailed history of the development of plastic surgery—emphasizing the significant historical aspects of the specialty rather than the many well-known developments of the past quarter century that are emphasized in other texts.
The book contains 15 chapters divided into 3 sections: the basics of plastic surgery; reconstruction of specific anatomical areas; and cosmetic surgery. The first chapter provides an overview of the history of surgery, with particular emphasis on the development of the field of anatomy.
