Radiopharmaceutical Reimbursement Rates

Since this article does not have an abstract, we have provided the first 109 words of the full text and any section headings.

To the Editor: In her Medical News & Perspectives article, Dr Hampton1 stated, "Medicare reimbursement for radioimmunotherapy was recently cut, and Medicare payments will fall $10 000 short of the cost for each patient treated. . . . " Although the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) reduced payment for radioimmunotherapeutics in its final reimbursement rulings for 2008, Congress reversed the CMS ruling. It mandated through the Medicare, Medicaid, and SCHIP Extension Act of 2007 that radiopharmaceutical reimbursement rates be kept at current (2007) levels through the first half of 2008.2

Financial Disclosures: Dr Singer is a full-time employee, chief medical officer, and equity holder in Cell Therapeutics, the US marketer of Y-ibritumomab.
