The Food and Drug Administration has found hazardous levels of chromium and selenium in bodybuilding supplements linked to serious adverse events.
Tests by agency scientists found that samples of Total Body Formula in tropical orange and peach nectar flavors and Total Body Mega Formula in orange/tangerine flavor contained up to 3426 µg of chromium and 40 800 µg of selenium per serving. According to the National Institutes of Health's Office of Dietary Supplements, the daily recommended dose of chromium for an adult is 35 to 45 µg; for selenium, the daily recommended dose of selenium is about 55 µg.
