Review of The Invisible Cure

To the Editor: I was surprised by the choice of Dr Green1 to review my book, The Invisible Cure,2 since his portrayal in the book was not flattering. This would seem to represent an undeclared conflict of interest. I believe that there are a number of errors in his review.

The book argues strongly that migrancy, sex inequality, and economic inequality have indeed exacerbated the epidemic in Africa, and my views on this have not changed since I started my research on AIDS 15 years ago. Indeed, the article he cites to justify his claim that I have had a change of heart is reprinted, almost verbatim, as chapter 5 in the book.
