The specialty of otolaryngology–head and neck surgery encompasses a large breadth of diseases and surgical procedures, including the areas of head and neck cancer, otology, rhinology, laryngology, facial plastic surgery, maxillofacial trauma, sleep surgery, and pediatric otolaryngology. An inherent challenge for any atlas of otolaryngology is to incorporate all of these areas, each of which has its own surgical principles and operative techniques. In addition, changes in surgical practice are occurring with the use of new technologies, such as endoscopic sinus and skull base surgery and minimally invasive thyroid surgery.
The second edition of Myers' Operative Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery is an excellent compilation of surgical procedures in all aspects of otolaryngology and provides up-to-date information and techniques. The second edition has been expanded to include new areas such as endoscopic approaches to the sinuses and skull base as well as color photographs and drawings throughout.
