Clinicians with sports medicine expertise are well versed in musculoskeletal medicine but typically have intimate knowledge of only a few sports. For them, this second edition of Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation will be a welcome alternative to traditional sports medicine texts. Generally, such texts are organized by anatomical region or type of injury. In contrast, this text is organized into sport-specific chapters. In this way, it provides clinicians with appropriate sport-specific background, allowing them to communicate with athletes in a language both parties will understand. As physiatrists, physical therapists, orthopedic surgeons, and athletic therapists, the contributing authors demonstrate a wide variety of expertise in sports medicine and rehabilitation. Chapters are written by individuals with varying levels of experience—presumably ranging from resident to senior physician—but not explicitly chosen because of their expertise as competitors in the various sports.
