In a Reply Letter entitled "Control of Outbreaks Due to Organisms Producing Extended-Spectrum -Lactamases" published in the March 24/31, 1999, issue of THE JOURNAL (1999;281:1080-1081), several words were deleted in the production process. In the fifth paragraph on page 1080, the end of the fourth sentence should have read " . . . owing to the critical nature of most infections in intensive care units."
