To JAMA Peer Reviewers and AuthorsThank You
Catherine D. DeAngelis, MD, MPH;
Phil B. Fontanarosa, MD
JAMA. 2005;293:1123.
In this issue of JAMA, we are publishing, with our sincere thanks, the names of the peer reviewers who completed manuscript reviews for JAMA in 2004.1 We acknowledge and appreciate the indispensable contributions of these dedicated reviewerswho represent virtually every field of medical sciencefor their thoughtful, rigorous critiques and their essential role in helping maintain and enhance the quality and scientific integrity of articles published in JAMA.
We also extend our sincere thanks to the physician-scientists, medical researchers, clinical investigators, and many other authors who submitted manuscripts for consideration for publication in JAMA. We are grateful that authors of medical research reports and other manuscripts entrust us with their important work. We have and always will strive to ensure that the evaluation of each manuscript is objective and as efficient as possible.
The quality of the papers submitted to JAMA along with the rigorous nature and timeliness of the peer review process are reflected in several measures (Table). During the past several years, the number of manuscripts submitted and our impact factor2 have continued to increase, while the overall time from manuscript receipt to publication has steadily decreased. In addition, to continue to improve turnaround times, a new Web-based system for peer review and for manuscript submission will be launched later this year.
